I commented how much we'd enjoyed the "upgraded" CSW Sixes, and he commented, somewhat ruefully, that the timing couldn't have been much worse for the publication of his article in aX. They have served well.Īs an interesting aside, at some point, some years after the fact, I ended trading e-mails with Jim Forte for some reason. The pair I redid ended up doin' time with both of our kids during their UG years, and went on to live with our daughter - and they still do. They really are improved by the Forte-designed XO too, I'd opine: much more transparent and more neutral, too, as I recall. So - even the original CSW Six sounds good if a bit bland - but these things, on sale at the time (very early 2000s) for ca. (with my usual high level of craftsmanship, of course ) Cambridge Soundworks Model Six 6 Speakers Bookshelf Black K-995. Many years back, audioXpress published an interesting article that described and offered a crossover redesign that, in the opinion of its author, Jim Forte, a marked improvement over the "value engineered" (my term, not his!) XO used by CSW - at the behest, he hypothesized, of CSW bean counters - in the stock Model Six.ĬSW used to regularly have half-price sales of these little two-ways, so, as our daughter's college matriculation loomed, I bought a pair on sale and proceeded to redo the XO per Forte's article. 2 Cambridge Soundworks Henry Kloss Model Six Speakers Pair Black Excellent Cond. The Six was designed, so CSW claimed, by Henry Kloss himself - and named in homage to his earlier Model Six (sold, it may be recalled, under the "KLH" brand name!). Got me to reminiscing about the modest but very pleasant (and inexpensive!) little CSW Model Six. Most important, however, is how Henry Kloss voiced the system, carefully fine-tuning the octave-to-octave balance.Celt's dandy new (as I type this!) thread: The 8-inch woofer cone is larger than those usually found in speakers this size, allowing the Model Sixes to move substantial amounts of air at low frequencies for accurate extended bass. Such a low crossover frequency wouldn't work with conventional tweeters, but the Model Six system's tweeter suspension allows the long throws necessary for music in this range. This ensures smooth, uncolored upper mid-range with wide dispersion. This system boasts a crossover frequency of 2000Hz, much lower than many other two-way designs. Extremely efficient and clean, Model Six will fill even large rooms with fantastic audio. Huw Powell at Human speakers may still have a supply of those empty cabs. They used the real deal (veneer) for awhile. Designed by Henry Kloss to feature natural, accurate, balanced sound, as well as the frequency range and power handling to satisfy serious listeners, Model Six is the way to go for crisp, bright bookshelf-speaker sound. the Model Six used to be sold with at least two other vinyl veneer finishes (IIRC walnut & beech) and one other grill cloth color. an 'all there' sound quality that belies its amazingly low price. I am the second owner (bought from audiophile friend) and both homes are free of smoking, pets, etc.Ĭambridge SoundWorks' Model Six bookshelf speakers have been described by Stereo Review as having. Cabinets have a few dings here and there but look exceptional for being 10+ years old. Excellent working condition, no rips, tears, etc. Just upgrading to an all-B&W system and selling what I don't need. The Radio 705 is available in three colors: arctic white, silver/white, and. Highly respected entry-level audiophile speakers. The Cambridge SoundWorks Radio 705 will primarily appeal to those who prefer its retro analog design. Absolutely fantastic pair of stereo speakers for the money, designed by the legendary Henry Kloss. Today Henry Kloss has come full circle to yet again exploit the cost/performance advantages of a properly conceived two-way loudspeaker.
